within(Reason) is a virtual and real-world gallery effort produced by Ron Reason (yes, my real name). for a wonderful while, it was a studio/office/gallery in the Pilsen arts district in Chicago. online, it’s also this blog, the publishing mechanism for various musings about things I have seen, done and thought with an artistic bent. here’s a bit more about me and where I’m coming from:

• WORKED as a design and photo editor and as creative consultant to some of the world’s best and largest news publications
• TAUGHT typography and advanced graphic design studio courses at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla.
• LECTURED on graphic thinking and creativity worldwide, in such places as Moscow, Oslo, Reikjavik, New Delhi, Madrid, Dubai, Singapore, Sao Paulo, Lisbon (Ohio) and Venice (Florida)
• LIVED and worked in Buenos Aires, Nairobi and Amsterdam
• TRAVELED to 32 countries, including in recent months, India, United Arab Emirates, Great Britain, Egypt, Nigeria and Kenya
• LAUNCHED the adventure blog, Travel With Reason
• DIRECTED for five years the Visual Journalism Department (training program, publication and research on photography, graphics, design and editing) at The Poynter Institute for Media Studies, where I remain a Visiting Faculty member

Goals: provoke. inspire. delight. warn. educate. help. A short time in existence, we have produced about a dozen exhibits which you can review on the primary website, and our events and sales have raised funds to help purchase permanent housing for an artists collective in the Nairobi slums, to launch a community library and youth program there, and to benefit the arts in Chicago public schools. we think art should not only be fun to look at and make you think, but should do good in the world as well. if you agree and want to connect, drop us a line at ron (at) artwithinreason.com
